From that point forward I wanted to find a natural sunscreen that was also effective. I never wanted to experience that pain again. We quickly found a good brand of natural sunscreen, but the watered-down ingredients weren’t enough for us. Being the natural chemists we were, we wanted to put together our own product, so we set out to make our own.
After experimenting with several ingredients and testing different batches, we began putting our own formulations to the test. After two years, we came up with a formula that worked, that smelled good, and rubbed in well. It’s a blend we now call Sun Care Crème. Our handcrafted blend is made with zinc, a mineral that is FDA approved for blocking UVA and UVB rays. Shea butter and coconut oil provide gentle SPF properties and a smooth, comforting base. We use a wonderful mixture of golden jojoba oil and red raspberry seed oil to enhance the product’s effectiveness.
We recognize the importance of absorbing the sun’s rays for vitamin D production, but we want to do it in a way that protects the skin. If we are out in the direct sun for an hour or more, we rub the crème in for every hour of exposure. We also put it on afterward, letting the oils moisturize the skin.
The results: For three years in a row my family has traveled to the Florida beaches for a week at a time. Any sun we get quickly fades into a nice tan the next day. No burning. No itching. The moisturizing properties of the plant oils help the skin quickly rejuvenate. We are so happy with this product. The crème has been great for our three year-old too. We make it in three natural scents: fennel, frankincense, and lavender.
